Meet your Nurse Practitioner

Dr. Katrevia Campbell, DNP, APRN, CNM

From as early as she can remember, Katrevia Campbell knew she wanted to work in healthcare. As a young girl in elementary school, while many children were still exploring what they might want to become, Katrevia was already certain of her path. Every year on career day, she proudly showed up wearing scrubs with a stethoscope, already envisioning herself one day caring for patients and making a difference in people’s lives.

That passion for healthcare continued to grow throughout her childhood and adolescence. Raised in Miami, Florida, Katrevia graduated at just 16 years old from Miami Northwestern Senior High School, where she was part of the school’s prestigious Medical Magnet Program. Her early exposure to healthcare education through the magnet program helped solidify her commitment to a future devoted to service, healing, and advocacy for others.

Following high school, Katrevia continued her academic journey at the University of South Florida, where she pursued a degree in Biomedical Sciences. While studying the sciences, she realized that her calling was not only to understand the science of the human body, but also to connect with patients on a deeper level and provide compassionate, hands-on care during some of life’s most vulnerable moments. This realization ultimately led her to transition into nursing, a profession that aligned closely with her personal mission to care for, advocate for, and empower others.

Katrevia graduated as a Registered Nurse in 2007 and began her career in labor and delivery, where she cared for women and families during one of the most transformative experiences of their lives: childbirth. Working closely with mothers and families during pregnancy and birth, she quickly recognized that her passion extended beyond bedside nursing and that she was called to provide comprehensive care to women throughout their lives.

Determined to follow that calling, Katrevia pursued graduate education at Frontier Nursing University, one of the nation’s pioneering institutions for midwifery education. In 2012, she earned her Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Nurse Midwifery, preparing her to provide comprehensive women’s healthcare as a Certified Nurse Midwife.

Since becoming a midwife in 2013, Katrevia has spent more than a decade providing compassionate and comprehensive healthcare to women across the entire lifespan. While many people associate midwifery solely with pregnancy and childbirth, her clinical practice extends far beyond maternity care. Katrevia provides full-spectrum women’s health and gynecologic care beginning with the onset of menstruation and continuing through adolescence, the reproductive years, perimenopause, menopause, and later stages of life.

Her scope of practice includes annual well-woman examinations, Pap smears, abnormal Pap management, contraception counseling, pregnancy options counseling, evaluation and treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding, hormonal imbalance management, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) diagnosis and treatment, infertility evaluation, menopausal care, and the diagnosis and management of a wide range of gynecologic conditions. She is also trained in colposcopy, allowing her to provide advanced diagnostic evaluation and follow-up care for abnormal cervical screening results.

Committed to advancing her expertise and strengthening the quality of care she provides to patients, Katrevia continued her education at the University of Cincinnati, where she earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in 2020. Her doctoral training strengthened her expertise in evidence-based practice, healthcare leadership, and quality improvement, equipping her to deliver the highest quality care grounded in the most current scientific evidence.

Throughout her years caring for women and families, Katrevia developed a reputation for connecting deeply with her patients. She often found herself counseling women through emotional challenges, life transitions, family stressors, and the psychological changes that frequently accompany reproductive health experiences.
Through these conversations, she began to recognize a critical gap in healthcare: the profound connection between women’s health and mental health was often overlooked. Many patients struggled with anxiety, depression, trauma, and emotional distress—particularly during pregnancy and the postpartum period—yet access to specialized mental health care remained limited due to stigma, cultural barriers, and a shortage of providers trained to address both reproductive and mental health.

Motivated by these experiences, Katrevia expanded her clinical training and completed a postgraduate certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Saint Thomas University in Miami, Florida. This additional training allows her to provide integrated care that addresses both physical and emotional well-being, further strengthening her ability to support patients and families holistically.
Today, Katrevia is the founder of Campbell Cares Health & Wellness, a practice dedicated to delivering holistic, compassionate, and evidence-based healthcare that integrates reproductive health, mental health, and family wellness.

She is especially passionate about addressing mental health disparities within Black and minority communities, where stigma, cultural barriers, and limited access to care often prevent individuals from seeking the help they need. Katrevia believes that increasing awareness, expanding access to culturally responsive care, and normalizing conversations about mental health are essential steps toward building healthier families and stronger communities.

Her philosophy of care centers on empowerment, education, and partnership. She believes patients deserve providers who listen to their lived experiences, honor their values, and work collaboratively with them to develop care plans that support long-term health and well-being.

In addition to her clinical work, Katrevia is deeply committed to community advocacy and public health education. She is the co-founder of Shakevia’s Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation, an organization dedicated to spreading awareness, promoting prevention, and supporting families affected by sickle cell disease.
Throughout her career in women’s health, Katrevia has had the privilege of delivering more than 1,000 babies, walking alongside families during some of the most meaningful and transformative moments of their lives.

At the heart of Katrevia’s journey is a deep faith and belief that purpose often unfolds through life’s challenges. Her path has been shaped not only by professional achievement, but also by resilience, personal growth, and an unwavering commitment to service.

Through her work, she continues to fulfill the mission that has guided her since childhood:
to care for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—and to empower individuals and families to live healthier, fuller lives.

Outside of her professional work, Katrevia enjoys traveling, community engagement, and spending time with her children, family, and friends.
